This page explains how promotions work in Soultrek. The table below shows all the ranks that exist on the SOULTREK ships. Under the table more explanation is given about how to achieve a certain rank. At the bottom of the page you can find a table showing the ranks and insignia we use for the Klingon Officers serving on Deep Space 23
CIVILIAN (Only upon special request) Civilians used in posts will usually be Non-Role playing characters, meaning they are made up when needed. If you wish however it is possible to play a civilian. There are no special requirements although you need to be able to explain what you - as civilian crewmember - can add to the RPG. Scientists, Barkeepers, Shopkeepers, Technicians, Teachers, Ambassadors can be civilians serving on a ship. Cadet
(Only
upon special request)
Cadets are are rarely ever found on a starship. Just out
of the academy they are usually young and inexperienced. No one starts
as Cadet unless you want to. There are several possible reasons why
someone would want to be a Cadet. Normally Cadets - if used - are
Non-Role playing characters, just as civilians. Crewmen
(Only
upon special request)
Crewmen are the lowest ranking officers on a starship.
Most crewmen are used as "REDSHIRTS". No one starts as Crewmen
unless you want to. There are several possible reasons why someone would
want to be a Crewmen. Ensign
If you just joined SOULTREK is very well possible that
you start as an Ensign. Depending on the available 'room' on a ship and
a possible 'test' post you either start as Ensign or Lieutenant Junior
Grade. If you post regular and involve your character in ships posts you
will usually be promoted to Lieutenant Junior Grade after little (or
somewhat longer) while. Also depending on the situations your ship
encounters and the progress of a mission. Lieutenant
Junior Grade
Being only a little bit higher in rank as Ensign this
rank expects you to post semi-regular. You become Lieutenant Junior
Grade after being Ensign for a while or directly after entering.
Depending on the 'room' on a ship and a possible 'test' post. Same as an
Ensign, a lieutenant Junior Grade usually works as assistant to one or
more higher ranking officers. Full
Lieutenant
Lieutenants can be department leaders. If you involve
your character and are a creative writer you can become a Lieutenant
fairly quick. Remember though that a ship can't be filled with only
Lieutenants, Lieutenant Commanders, Commanders and Captains. So
sometimes it can take a while too. Lieutenants should be able to give
interesting twists to a way a story is going, although they are not
expected to do major story-changing plotlines. Lieutenant
Commander
Often chief of one of the major departments or
specialists like doctors and counselors. Persons being Lieutenant
Commanders often have a good deal of history and experience in Role
Playing. Their leading functions expect from them to be able to motivate
other people to post as well as helping the major plotlines take form. Commander
Often the ships first officer or a department leader. A
strong writer able to make imaginative posts. His/her character is well
developed and s(he) is able to motivate people and use his/her
imagination to write the ship out of a 'dead end'. Commanders often
become Captains when a new ship is issued, only when desired by the
individual though. Captain
Having only one captain per ship, this is the highest
'normal' rank. Captains have a lot of experience and history in RPG.
They are very imaginative and usually start and steer a mission together
with the 1st Officer. Whenever the posting for a ship is going slow,
it's a captains duty to interest people to start posting again. Admiral
(Special
rank)
An Admiral often is a Non-Role playing character. At the
moment there is one, and is only used for promotion ceremonies or
Soultrek-wide messages and stories. It's not impossible that a Captain
is eventually promoted to Admiral in time and still commands a ship, but
no plans for that so far.
Remember that the above mentioned is only a
guideline. There may be exceptions, some of which you may experience as
negative others as positive. Remember that effort will always be
rewarded.
