SECTION 3: PERSONAL HISTORY

I was conceived of a Dezan mother of unknown ethnicity and a Klingon father (a prominent member of the High Council) during a covert vacation on Risa; I know who he is but Dezan protocols don't permit me to discuss him or contact him. The fact that my mother lived through the tryst speaks volumes of her Dezan skills. As a Dezan, in addition to my training in the sexual arts, I was taught several methods of self-defense (in case a client gets out of hand), and how to increase my empathic skills (sometimes all a client wants is a good listener). I'm also familiar with several alien languages and cultures (to make clients feel at ease) and I have an excellent memory (so I don't serve gumbo to a client who hates okra). When I reached the age of 12, my mother died while entertaining an influential client (the details of her death remain hidden still), and, per tradition, I took on her clients, and was soon entertaining officers and dignitaries from half the explored galaxy.

At the age of 15, I became the favorite of a high-ranking Starfleet officer, who was, contrarily, slightly disgusted with my type of employment. I gave birth to his stillborn daughter, shortly after my 16th birthday, and named her Ana Loral (per Dezan tradition, a child takes the mother's name, not the father's). The baby was cremated, and he allowed me to pilot his shuttle into the upper atmosphere to release the ashes. On the trip back to the planet, I told him of how my mother had died, and how I was wondering if there was more to life than being a Dezan. He offered to sponsor me through Starfleet Academy (with the stipulation that I never reveal the he is my benefactor). I accepted immediately, unaware of how difficult the social pressure would be. Team sports were unknown to me, and in the course of a semester, I put two people in Sickbay. The first, a baseball player who I knocked cold from my position in right field by throwing the ball directly at his head rather than to the second baseman who was waiting to tag him out, and the second, a goalie who may forever be a falsetto after I kicked a soccer ball into his groin rather than into the goal.

I was also unaware of the stigma that being Dezan carried outside of the guild's circle of members and clients, though at first, I took the teasing and snide remarks as proof of the general populations' ignorance -- until the night I was almost raped. My years of self-defense training were almost no match against the effects of a powerful drug to which I was introduced that night -- chocolate. My "date" claims that I attacked him -- I honestly don't remember. I do know that he came out of the incident with a broken arm. My benefactor immediately expelled my attacker, who had also been in the Special Operations program, and I suddenly found myself ostracized by my classmates amidst accusations of sleeping my way around the Academy. I took up solitary activities -- horse-back riding, archery, and chess against my computer. I graduated from Starfleet Academy as quietly as I could, and was assigned to the USS Entropy.

SECTION 4: CHARACTER'S ATTRIBUTES

1) Talents: Quick to read a situation and highly improvisational; excellent memory; proficient in hand-to-hand combat and several of the martial arts, including various forms of weaponry; strongly musically inclined; wide and varied range of sexual skills (though I'm practicing celibacy 'til I find Mr. Right).

2) Traditions: Goddess worship; I celebrate the seasonal changes of birth, death (including the deaths of my mother and my daughter) and rebirth.

3) Marital Status: Single

4) Likes: I like an intense workout on the holodeck (the more weaponry involved, the better!), then curling up with a romance novel or a book of love poetry.

5) Dislikes: Cruelty, ignorance, rudeness and especially lack of ethics.

6) Strong Beliefs: Rules of conduct must not be broken, in love or war.

7) Limitations: Socially, I'm not good in a crowd, and don't get me involved in team sports or I'll hurt someone.

8) Strengths: I work very well one-on-one; I have the ability to get almost anyone to open up and talk to me (and tell me what I want to know!).

9) Ambitions: I'm looking for a long, rewarding career in Starfleet (on a ship -- I don't want a desk job!), and eventually, I'd like a family. And a puppy.

10) Special Abilities: Just being Dezan is a special ability!

11) Quirks: Allergic to chocolate; it's affects range from mildly narcotic to strongly aphrodisiac.

SECTION 7: PERSONAL NOTE

Point of clarification: the Dezan are not an ethnic group but a guild of professional courtesans of any and all races and species. As a guild, they operate independently, and have their own financial and medical systems.

They often work with the Federation, which uses the Dezan for everything from entertaining visiting dignitaries for a day or two to covert operations behind enemy lines for months, sometimes years (when the Federations deems to recognize that the guild exists; generally, the Dezan are seen as an embarrassment or a dirty joke).

The Dezan believe strongly in honoring specific rules of conduct (especially a code of silence where clients are concerned), and noncompliance with said rules generally results in death by toxic ingestion (while the Federation looks the other way -- it could be one of them being talked about next time!).
